On the topic of play swords, my sons are involved in a role playing group
that doesn't allow wooden swords either, for safety reasons- what they do
have is fiberglas rods wrapped in pipe insulation foam sleeves, and covered
with duct tape. Let me tell you, you've never seen teenage boys have fun
until you've seen them wallop on each other with these "nerf" swords!!
Of course, there's a complex system of scoring, too, which I'm convinced
that no adult can understand...
