[TheForge] lacquer

I find lacquer works quite well. It is a little brittle so it can chip, I find this a proplem. I have never used it out side, but it was used on cars and I believe it stood up. I use to work on boats, often brass hardware was lacquered. I found this didn't work that well since if there was even a pin prick in the finish it would tarnish and spread under the lacquer, leaving no way to polish it with out taking the rest of the lacquer off.
It doesn't seem to discolour much (I'm sitting by a piece I did in 1986), it will react with alcohol, and some other solvants. I guess the big problem is knocking two pieces together and chipping them.
Still looking for the perfect finish; Daryl
