Regarding electric verses forge welding- If you know how to forge weld , you
can make an electric weld blend into the piece and look like forge welding.
A branch stuck sideways onto a tree trunk doesn't look right. It should be
thick at the joint and taper away. The upsetting of a scarf and forge weld
on scroll work looks like this. The point is if you know what a good weld
looks like and if you timeframe for a project calls for electric welding,
you can make a nice looking weld.
One of my mentors told me "Not every job will be a masterpiece, but you
must know how to make a masterpiece."
