  Self defrosting refrigerators are a great way to dehydrate anything,
but I think you'd have problems with condensation when you used the
cold stuff out in the heat and humidity.  It's one thing to introduce
dry rod to a humid environment, but to make the rod the cause of
condensation would seem self-defeating.
