Thanks for your informative post.
I have a friend who's a retired ironworker- helped build that bridge (and
many other amazing projects).
I asked him what the talk in the break room was concerning "Gertie"- whether
the workers thought it would work. They didn't think it was a good idea
while they were building it- such a flat structure in such a windy place-
they thought it should be deeper, but he just shrugged and said you trust
the engineers to know what they're doing.
Kind of like we trust the politicians and surgeons and mechanics...that's
life!
