I have seen decorative enamelwork done on old appliances, over the original
white enamel. The original white enamel acted as a base coat. The
decorative enamel was black, used in "grisaille" fashion, like a charcoal
drawing.
What I'm getting at is that you can use the enameled metal off old
appliances and enamel over it. It would have more of a found object art
quality.
