Check in your area for an artist co-op type thing. Here in Birmingham, the
owner of a sand/gravel operation that had an old steel mill on the
property, opened it up for artists to use and renovate. I've got a friend
with about 5000 sq ft of shop space with full 3ph power and the works. He
loves it. I think there are a dozen or so artists of various genre there. A
few times per year they have an open house show for the public and it also
facilitates collaborations and learning from each other. Each artist is
expected to put in some sweat equity to get their space into shape but the
rents are VERY reasonable, mostly just to cover the cost of utilities.
