The problem here is that people know when they have screwed up.
Sounds like you had a room full of such people, but in those
situations you cannot so much as breathe a hint of the truth
because if you do publicly, then you have to do something about
it, meaning taking an audit of the accountabilities. Nobody
wants that when major screw ups occur. You served as a reminder
of their errors and had to go away.
