I think that the problem here is that CARHARTS have become
"trendy/in/hip/......(insert word of choice)" You see a lot of people
wearing them for style not utility. I bet that the company has seen that
their market (read income) has shifted. Today, they probably make more
money from those who wear the clothing for style rather than as working
clothes. Consequently qualities like flame retardation and durability/wear
are no longer as important to the consumer.
