Have you written the company? Sometimes the beancounters talk them into a
change that they don't realize makes a real difference to the product, and
they're looking for an excuse to go back.

Yes, some businesses are just out to make money, but there are still a few
who pride themselves on the quality of their products, and generally they
tend to be in the working man's sector....
