OK, much as I hate to add another non BS post - Oil was formed by swamps that 
persisted for millions of years, stuff grew, died, sat in the anarobic swamp 
water while more stuff grew and died on top of it for millions of years. 
Deposits like this that did not make it all the way to oil became coal, stuff 
that did not make to coal became peat, and in peat bogs you can see the 
process going on today. If  oil is billowing up out of the molten core of the 
earth, I don't see any reason why ice cream couldn't have the same source.
