Phlip,

1. The frame was made from 4 pieces of 2" x 1/4"

2 - 17 3/4" long with cutouts on each end leaving a 1 1/2" long 3/4"
wide piece to form the hooks with the remaining 14 3/4" forged to 2" x
3/16" x 19 5/8" and bent in the center to form the angle. Hooks were
forged before bending to form the angle

2 - 14" long forged to 2" x 3/16" x 19 1/4"

2. Top Plate was made from one piece of 2" x 1/4" 4 1/2" long

Split each end in 1 1/2" along center line. Heat and fold along center
line. With fold up, forge ends down in and arc from inner edge of cut
on each end. Unfold piece. Use ~1 1/2" round bar to form smooth curve
between legs on each end. Forge each leg down to 1/4" round with short
taper on end to ~ 1/8" round on end(bend other leg 90 deg). Form hook.

3. Grill Strips 10 pieces of 3/4" x 1/4" 12" long

Forge out to 3/16" x 5/8" x 19" with rounded ends.

Chains 16 random length pieces 5" to 8" long

Forge small scarf on end form eye around 1/2" bar (I used 1/2" drift.
Taper allows reshaping eye after weld). Keep track of starting length
and finished length. You'll need this to determine length of 4th link
in each chain to make chain 16 1/2" long.
Weld on end of horn. Gentle hammering to not distort eye or thin neck at
weld. Repeat on other end. Now form eye on next piece. Before welding
, heat and open eye to insert eye from previously formed piece. When
heating to weld found that best position for previously formed link was
nearly vertical. When at welding heat remove and if links are stuck
together, gently try to break them apart without moving link to be
welded. If you do bend scarf away from other side of link to be
welded, don't try to weld. (It never worked for me at least.) Before
reheating, quench previous link to prevent over heating and sticking. To
reshape new link joined to previous link, I used a 1/2 round chisel that
I dulled the edge of. You could form a 1/2 round drift from flattened
end of 3/8" stock around a piece of 1/4" stock. Slip around previous
link to shape new eye over pritchel hole. After 3 links are formed,
determine length required for 4th link. Don't forget that link will be
inside eye of existing chain, so finished length required is 1/2" longer
that 16 1/2" - length of 3 link chain.

4. Hook

Used 3/4" x 1/4" stock. I'll have to look for dimensions I used.

Hope this helps. I'll clean up some of my sketches, particularly for
the top plate and post them.

Bill
