Yeah, I was going to chime in on this too.  I first noticed this when I
started enamelling.  While my 'heat pain' tolerance in my hands shot up,
so did my sensitivity to heat variations.  I got to be able to tell just
how long in what heat level I could handle without getting burned.  It is
nice to be able to tell when it is a, 'whoops...too hot, move hands now'
moment.
