Dave, will this go up and down enough to fatigue the wire? Probably not,
but think on it. If so, your best bet is the finest stranded wire you
can find.

As the rope stretches and relaxes over time, the electrical cord will
take up the slack and become the device used to hold the lamp. Or, the
cord will move along with the stretching rope, and pull the wire nut
connections apart<G>.
