I've got a collection of parts from different eras and mfg all cobbled
together to make a porta-power using an assortment of reducers and rude
weldments. I even lucked out and found an original porta-power cart ( in
5' of poison oak at an old mercury mine) with a drawer and table for the
fittings and a little press frame that accepts the ram. I set it up to take
anvil stakes and so on...I sure use the heck out of it...must have had some
of those parts 15 years before I finally had enough stuff to make it work.
They are a very handy and versatile tool.
Even the cheapy Tiwaneese versions are a lot of tool for the money. For the
cost of the valving you can buy a cheapy. If you are gonna make your own,
try to get a pump/valving setup that both pushes and pulls and get at least
1 ,2 way cylinder. Mine came abused and broken. I fixed it and abused it
some more. Recently, even my wife has been abusing it ( bending 7/16
plate)...fun.....PF
