If the path is smooth and un-obstructed, a siphoning action occurs from the gun
which will draw the sand fairly well. As a result, just a tube place at the
bottom of the reservoir will usually pick up sand. Taper the sides to the tube
to ensure the sand flows down to it and you should be satisfied. The problem
usually encountered is kinks in the hose will stop the flow, or wet sand will
clog it up. I have one of the cheap sets and have just stuck the feed pipe into
a sack of sand and blasted away.
Again, the cost of building may exceed the cost of built if you look at the
sale ads from places like Northern Tools, Harbor Freight and others, provided
they are available to you in your location.
