Bruce, you have to work with the digital picture file.
First convert it to B&W unless you have a color newsletter
or unless you are going to use the photo on your web site.
Generally you have to make a photo a lot lighter and add
more contrast than you might think that it needs. I have found
that the printer company always makes the photos too dark
and they end up looking like crap unless you send them in
too light in the first place.
