If I remember the "Anvils in America" book correctly, the top half is forged
and the bases are cast. That's why many break there.

On my Trenton, the weight is readable on the foot, facing the front, under
the horn, on the left side as you have the horn pointing at you. The number
on the right side, usually starting with an A, is the serial number.
