What you say makes sense Mike, but,
I was piggybacking on a friends order...all told about 250#
and the outfit we were ordering from was a biggie that probably bought
directly from the mill.
San Francisco is no small town and the prices were similar at the 4 big
name outfits we called.
It was in fact, silicon bronze that we got, but the copper prices were similar.
Fortunately, since then, I was able to buy 3 , 4 X 8' X 1/4" sheets of
some unidentified bronze from an ex shipyard owner
for $200 and a bottle opener. Works hot very nicely..won't move cold.
For raising and hollow-body stuff, I sure do like that silicon bronze.
When I asked my junkyard to keep an eye out for silicon bronze and
aluminum bronze....
they called a month later ,and said, we got it. er, never mind
specifying alloys at the junk yard.
