I did some twisting of 1/2 " tubing last year for a
set of custom speaker stands.

Go slowly and make sure your heat is very even. The
first piece I did was nearly perfect. I used a gentle
twist and I do not think you can do a tight twist.

The second piece was a disaster so I sawed it in half
and checked, sure enough, the wall thickness was
uneven. The third time I tried it, I filled it with
clean fine sand (sandbox sand from Home Depo) and
crimped the end (not perfectly tight so it would
explode) The twist was perfect again in spite of the
uneaven wall.

Did several pieces since then with the sand and had no
problem. I have forged tapers in the tubing also. Go
real slow and use a small hammer, Keep you eye on it,
if it starts to bulge, fix it quickly. Watch your
heat. It burns real fast and cools real fast.

A little practice and you can do almost anything. I
ran wires up the middle after I was done. Beautiful
stands.
