couple more ideas...
if you can mount the compressor in another room of your shop you'll be much happer. the pounding of the compressor can cause hearing loss, for one thing.
run your filter with plastic pipe to the outside. it'll cut down on the noise.
the other fella who posted was right about large diameter and long drops. also go with metal. it'll cool the air faster. and you need to go 50-60 feet to help eliminate moisture at the air line end.   
i mounted a kitchen hood over mine with the fan reversed to pull outside air down onto the compressor. in warm weather you'll make lots of water in the tank. it'll help cut down on that.
