don't know that i would call them ignorant..... they supply a service at a
customers request... and customers can be persistent.....
but if they do not inform the customer of the change in the longevity of the
coat then i would not do business with them.......
Morton sells some very amazing colors and i believe that some of their grays
would come closer than a black.......
But you won't get a match thats for sure...... the character of steel is
that the reflection is not consistent over the surface neither is the color,
powder coats tend to be consistent or at least consistently random (for
surfaces like the metallized finishes)
If i recall correctly Morton has a color called pewter that is a fair
match......... but to be honest we never tried to match the color of the
metal underneath.....
jon p again........

So the shops doing clear powder coating on steel are ignorant? Actually, I
have to say I have only heard of one shop in our area that rises to the OK
level.
It sound like the closest powder coating can get to a traditional finish is
BLACK? I'm beginning to think there is no good finish out there. The best
I have come up with works better than paint but the piece has to be up to
red and quenched in it. Not to good for a gate.
