It depends on the size of the anvil and how much it's been ground down in the past.  I've seen face plates between 3/8" and 3/4".

Northern Tools and Equipment or Harbor Freight weed burner.  I got a 301 pound peter wright upto 300 degrees in about 30 to 45 minutes.
