I think roofing copper is 16 oz. and they make flashing copper that I
believe is 12 oz.
and that is weight per square foot.

Kirsten,
A roofing company where I buy their drops/scrap that deals in metal has
16 oz copper meaning 16 oz per square foot, 24 oz & 32 oz copper. 32 oz
copper is about 0.040 inch thick. The 16 oz is for roofing while the 24
& 32 oz is downspouts, gutters, etc.
