OK, for whatever reason, the response mentioning The Leather Factory arrived
before your question, so I found this question, and I'm responding.
If you want poor quality and high prices, feel free to buy from the Leather
Factory. I'm very much into leather working in conjunction with my smithing, and
I've checked them out, hoping that they were a fit replacement for Tandy. They
aren't.
I suggest that you contact S&T Leather in Columbus, Ohio. They also have a
branch in, I believe, St Louis. They do mail order, and have good quality at
reasonable prices. Last I saw, they were selling rawhide splits (half a hide,
cut down the backbone) for about $70- $80. I doubt you'll find a better price.
If you have questions, or need help working with the material, feel free to
email me.
