I have built a few towers and they are bolted , not welded . for that
reason.
the joinery is the solution ,  most of the structures were riveted , now
bolted.
I aint no metallurgist just was a connector , and weldor in the trade.
the real pain is going over every connection , of say, a 250' tower with a
torque wrench,
and then an inspector with a pair of binoks gives it the o-kay from from
the ground.
