There's that question again!
How thick will it weld????
Not proper question. Maybe ... how thin will it weld
I have welded 1/2" thick plate w/ a 110 - 100amp stick.
It requires attention to root, gap, and multipule passes.
And, of course, rod selection.
Mig has less clean-up if you don't use CO2.
" " " " " " " " FLUX CORE wire.
Now , back to solving the problem.
You should be able to get a Lincoln AC-DC 225
for that. Great machine for all you will need for a long time.
500$ won't buy much mig. I'd save pennies to get quality
185 + MIG.
Miller 210, 251, etc.
BTW, I am going back to .023 wire, as .035 can't do all the
small things I do. But it is 300amps.

> That was an implied part of my question. Put another way, would a $500
mig take less clean up and be more versatile than a $500 arc. I have done
gas mig and stick welding, but always with someone else's equipment (boss')
I have even done a tiny bit of carbon arc. Will a $500 mig weld as thick of
metal as a stick or gas. /gas is more versatile, but it is also more
dangerous. Thoughts?
