[TheForge] Mig and sanding belts

That was an implied part of my question. Put another way, would a $500 mig take less clean up and be more versatile than a $500 arc. I have done gas mig and stick welding, but always with someone else's equipment (boss') I have even done a tiny bit of carbon arc. Will a $500 mig weld as thick of metal as a stick or gas. /gas is more versatile, but it is also more dangerous. Thoughts?

It is I who formed the blacksmith,
who fans the flame into a fire and
fashions a weapon fit for it's work.
