Chad,

I assume that you have given this a lot of thought, but.... how much
Japanese do you speak, other than the names and terms used in Japanese sword
making?  Would you stay in Japan once you have learned what you want to
learn, or move back to the states?
You might try contacting ABANA. You are surely not the first to want to do
this.
