[TheForge] Air hammer valves

Mike, My guess would be the spring started to break or come apart
causing much more flow on one side until hammer stopped running.......which
then fits the rule of "it's broke - we need to fix it now".
Is the crack in the housing on the same port the missing spring is
on? My guess is the hammer might have ate the spring (but that would not
explain bolts not being in the holes) and the damaged spring valve may have
led to the crack from all the air being directed to that port and building
heat(read hammer ran, but not well for awhile). We'd have to assume someone
took the hammer apart and took the bolts out if they were indeed
missing........and looked for a spring valve and never found one.........or
the valve could be in one of the air ports still and would be a good idea to
continue your spring airway search for it.
These are only guesses, so take them as such - but that's how I'd
look at a non running used machine and try to make some sense of how it
could have ended up this way. The real clue is if there were bolts in the
holes, or none at all. If there were bolts, you probably have possible
broken flap valve parts in air ways. If no bolts at all: then someone more
than likely took it apart to find the parts........and never got a
roundtuit.
