The discussion on the Krause hammer is very interesting to me
and I hope that it continues. I've been gathering the steel items
needed to make a Kinyon style hammer but have on an air cylinder
that could be used as far as air parts are concerned.

I like the Krause hammer very much and think that Mark has done
an outstanding job of developing the hammer. I think that one item
that makes some people shy away is that for sure there is
machining involved and many don't have access to the mill and or a
lathe to get the job done. If I remember correctly the valve located
between the two cylinders on the hammer was totally
fabricated/machined by Mark. The cylinder in the rear had grooves
machined in the shaft to allow air to escape from the cylinder to
help control how much air gets to the valve. I would think that both
these functions should be able to be solved using off-the-shelf air
items (but this statement probably shows how little I underestand
the problems involved).

To my way of thinking Mark's hammer is a truly self contained air
hammer, but I remember about a year or so ago some took great
exception to calling his hammer self contained. But this feature of
supplying it's own air is what makes his hammer so neat.
