NetZero is free e-mail with 10 hours of internet (to get your weather, 
etc..).  But you have to put up with a lot of advertising.  But it is free.

Juno offer free e-mail with no internet access.  However, for limited 
access they have a $9.99/mo option that gets you fewer commercial ads with 
your internet access.
