Dan,
It may depend upon what you mean by metalworking.  If your curriculum =
includes machining, then it would clearly have a place.  I doubt it would =
be useful to most other welding, fabricating or forging purposes, but =
that's just my opinion.  Remember, too, that folks with aptitudes for =
metalworking may be inept with stuff like AutoCAD.  I'm the reverse.  A =
machinist I could possibly be; a skilled metalworker never =AF I'm just =
not that good with my hands.  But I drew up the Grasshopper Treadle Hammer =
plans on TurboCAD and loved it. =20
Look into TurboCAD as a much less expensive alternative to AutoCAD.

Are there many smiths out there using Auto-Cad to illustrate, plan,
explore, etc.,  iron projects on a regular basis? If so, in what way
most commonly? I'm wondering about its inclusion in a metalworking
curriculum. Thanks.            Dan A.
