[TheForge] Rolling Mill

I tried a Blu Crusher- it works well but will only take an 1/8 in. per
pass. You can take three passes per heat though. The design is very
straight forward and some what simplified from the McDonald plan. My
observations are that with low horsepower you have to use small rolls.
The angle of attack of the small rolls will only grab so much and that
is the 1/8 in limit per pass. More and the rolls slip.
Energy in equals energy out and a 1hp machine will only do so much
work. Bob

> The rolling mill is going to be a bit of a hybrid, I read the book
review on anvilfire of Hugh McDonald mill (Norm sells the plans for
$25.00). I also looked at the Blu Crusher. Then at the scrap yard I saw
some steel, well I couldn't wait for plans, so off I went. It is mostly
ready to assemble, but I now have another rush job that means Christmas
$$$. If it works I will credit Hugh McDonald, if it doesn't oh well
making is half the fun. I would be interested on hearing from anyone
else who has built one. Please no pictures I don't have time for any
last minute time changes, I have beer riding on this one ;-).
