A Santa Cruz Blacksmith Jan Yissel , was working on a machine that was sort 
of compramise between
a power hammer and a hydraulic press.  Was shooting for 1 blow per sec.
No sound of impact and  enough speed to actually forge. Another friend 
suggested a  heavy adjustable spring set up that would
give at a preset pressure to save breakage. Then he could use a big 
flywheel and eccentric.
