The manual on this adapter, as well at Hickok tube testers, are all

To use the adapter, you just need to match the pins on the adapter plug 
to the pins of the tube socket on the TV-7.

The knobs on the TV-7 are the socket pin numbers. For example, the first 
filament selector knob 'A-P' are socket pins '0-9'. The other filament 
selector knob works the same way.
So for testing a Compactron tube using the octal socket on my TV-7 with 
the CA-4 adapter, the settings on the TV-7 would be BS3-5478 where the 
adapter plug pins are:

1 Filament
2 Filament
3 Grid A
4 Grid B
5 Plate
6 Screen
7 Cathode
8 Suppressor
