[Test-Equipment] HP VTVM?

Hi Jim,

I think the analog metered ones (HP-410B, for example) are easier for tuning up circuits. Especially aligning the circuits that are all over the place old ham transmitters and receivers.

You can see how fast a voltage is rising due to resonance (and falling off from it) as you turn a slug in a coil, or tune a capacitor, for example. You can do it with a DMM as well (fitted with an RF probe), but I just don't get the same feel for the rising and falling of the value of the voltage I am measuring.

Regards

Dave, Brian:
I to am accustomed to and more comfortable with Analog meters. I have Digital but simply don’t like them. Like to see if the needle fluctuates, and the personality of the fluctuation. Digital can’t do that.

Kindest regards Jim K9AXN

Hello David,

~ It would help to know *why* you need a VTVM, instead of a DMM.

Partly because it's what I'm used to---analog meter you know. I'll be using it for work on low level measurements in ham receivers, and I believe that the VTVM is more sensitive---I could be all wrong on that.

Cheers,

Brian
