[Test-Equipment] Hickok signal generator

Hello All,

Thanks again for all the help with my questions about VTVM's! I knew of
Hickok's reputation for high quality tube testers, but it didn't occur to me
that they might be the "go-to brand" for other vintage test equipment.

So, I tried searching for Hickok signal generators this morning. It seems
that they put out several models of "crystal controlled" signal generators
that are FM modulated as well as AM. Those also have a sweep control
function.

There was a clean looking Hickok 288X on ebay for $70 plus shipping. It had
one "watcher", so I quickly downloaded the manual from BAMA, scanned it for
the uses of the sweep function, and bought it. I figured that, worst-case, I
would have a conventional service grade signal generator, or at least a box
of useful parts (;->).

Back in January, I asked the group about equipment for RF spectrum analysis,
and the conclusion was that I needed to save up a couple of grand for some
good HP or similar equipment. I bought the Hickok with the hope that its
sweep function working with my 'scope will let me look at the pass-band of
tuned circuits and IF filters.

So, to my question: Has anybody had any experience with any of those old
Hickok signal generators? Any advice on the subject greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

Brian
