Thats a tough one Brian as I have so many of them plus other brands.

For general ham AM and some SWL it would be the NBS-1 which is a NC-183 with
a 3rd IF stage and selectable IF selectivity. NC-183R is similar. Broad
response for no QRM and added selectivity plus crystal filter for battle
conditions; great PP 6V6 audio. With minimal work its even good on 10M. Used
with a Viking I mostly 160-40M.

NC-300/303 for hamband only any mode. Good in QRM and the audio can be
expanded a bit but a 6AQ5 cant compete with PP 6V6's for quality. That is
usually used with a Viking II CDC on 40-15.

HRO-500 plus LF-10 for 5KHz to 30 MHz, fantastic BCB DXer and general SWL.
Not mated to any transmitter

NC-101X for a 30's hamband only vintage station; PP 6F6's changed to 6V6's
for less distortion and better efficiency. Used with a pre WW2 Hallicrafters
HT-9.

HRO-60 for top of the line tube radio with a few simple mods. Beats anything
else for coverage, audio, and sensitivity performance, coil changing is a
PITA so mine usually sits on 10M AM with a 32V2....the matching 75A3 (one
owner pair) is a dog in comparison.

NCX-1000. High quality audio SSB and AM (150W carrier) table top KW,
receiver has no selectivity options. Set up in the BR with a homebrew 10-20M
vertical GP on the roof made from a freebie CB vertical.

All the above are in regular use.

I also have many other Nationals from SW-58 to NC-400 that get limited use
or are shelf queens.

The NC-200, NC-240D, and NC-183D are contenders with similar era
transmitters.
