     Yes, exactly, they are not meant to be used at the same time.  I also posted a guess about how the other parts are assembled. Again, the 774 was a sexed connector, i.e., male and female parts, as opposed to the "sexless" 874 where any two will mate, so the meter had to have _two_ adaptors, one for male and one for female.  Very Victorian.
