You can send a photo to me or post it somewhere, it would help. By won't fit do you mean that one of them does not thread into the probe or something else? The probe evidently could be connected to either a male or female 774. The type of collar and center pin would be different. One of my 1800As came with a 774 sleeve but no other parts. I will have a look at it when I get home. I think I also have an ancient variable capacitor with 774 connectors on it but am not sure without looking. In any case, I think the probe cap from earlier 1800As will take the 874 outer sleeve so you can connect it to things with 874 connectors on them.
