Just took a closer look at it.
It seems that the WWV signal from antenna is summed ( combined) with the RF
signal presented on front panel via an attenuator so that they are
comparable in amplitude so an good beat note can
be generated. The RF input may be a "sub harmonic" of 5 or 10 MHz.
So an audio beat note or a visible one (magic eye tube) can be
observed. It also provides the ability to receive the tones present on the
WWV signal.
Looks like one or two RF amplifiers and Mixer plus several stages of IF
amplification and probably AM detector.
