The only caution with coax would to NOT use it with the shield "floating".

This would leave one with a High Voltage charged capacitor.  That is 
real trouble.

The HyPot, (Brand Name.) we used, had substantially larger cable due to 
the ability and range to go to 150KV.  So we would NEVER have used 1/2" 
cable.

I use RG-213 for HV cable in amplifiers.  I simply remove the shield!  
Then I don't have issues.  Neither do I use "foam" dielectric junk.
