[Test-Equipment] UPS damage to test equipment

I have shipped/received several thousand heavy packages with UPS over the
last 15 years. In general it works good but on occasion they will destroy
something. I always file a claim and they ALWAYS deny it saying the item was
not packed properly. This is the opening position. Now you fight. Submit all
the data you can muster. Photos, email from the seller, buyer, packer and
most anyone else that has seen the damage. They have ALWAYS paid, but it
takes a barrage of evidence and I really think the bother factor is more
significant than the facts.

They usually want the item/packing sent to them (They will send you a label
and pick the unit up) and if you request, you can often get the damaged item
back plus the full insured value payment. The argument is that YOUR item is
worth more than the damage/insurance.

Only the sender can file the claim as they are the one with the contract
with UPS. So make an arrangement with the sender to assure that you get the
payment and the item back. Don't give up you; will win.
