More likely, the sweep is not triggered. Is there a green "Triggered" LED
on the panel? Is that on?

Are you in AUTO sweep mode? Check you are not in "Single Sweep" or a
"Delayed" mode.
** Yes, in auto

Another thing you can do is put your 7A18 into the H slot and see if you
can get H deflection with that.
**  Yes, I now get horizontal deflection.
