The impedance of a "small pilot light" is likely to be much higher than
the radiation resistance of a short vertical, so it's likely to turn nearly
all your 100 mW into light rather than radio waves. A field strength meter -
basically a crystal set with a meter rather than earphones, with a sensing
antenna near the feedpoint, may be your simplest solution.

Maybe I will just use a small pilot light in series with the antenna lead and
tune for
maximum brightness. I was trying to demonstrate to a group of Scouts the 1941
message
from FDR and hearing it on a receiver that was used in that time period. So
everything
would be one a small table. I could separate the transmitter in my home which
would be
1/3 of a mile away but that would take away from the display. Maybe I will
use a scope
also so they can see the waveform when he speaks. Anyway
