Hello Ed,

E26   IF attenuators no calibrated.   Not calibrated for Correct Measurement

SP33.0 in the HP8970A: 
Perform IF attenuator calibration. Refer to the Calibration, IF 
Attenuators Detailed Operating instruction
See page 3-47 of the HP8970A manual.

General Remedy: Repeat Calibration.

If the IF Attenuator Calibration is not successfully completed, error 
E13 is displayed,
with 4 dashes in the NF window

What is the condition of the memory backup battery ?
If it has depleted, prior IF attenuator calibration memory will be lost
and possibly a E80, memory failure, will occur.

What is the result of entering the ENR cal data into memory and 
calibrating  ?

Did the noise source work before ? 

Do you have detailed current ENR vs frequency calibration data ?

The biggest problem with old units is the internal battery depletes.
