I have a "disposable" Yahoo email account for high-risk uses,
like public Yahoo messageboards. If it gets too clogged with spam,
I can delete it and create another. But I find after about 5 years
of use I still get little spam. I must credit Yahoo's efforts
to keep spam down. Indeed, My real email account, which I give
only to trusted friends, get more spam than the exposed Yahoo
account! Hotmail, on the other hand, is not reliable.
I have eclectic and promiscuous interests; so have joined dozens
of groups. But most are set to "no-mail"; I just drop in to
scan the activity, or reset to "mail" if something intrigues me.
If you are worried about spam:
1) Yahoo is pretty safe
2) use a disposable email
3) Join lots of groups, set to "no-mail" when boring
Sincerely
/b
