Hi group,
The yellow component is a a spark gap. It is there to protect the meter from over-voltage.
The manual for the 87 is available from www.fluke.com
Click 'SUPPORT' on the top menu
Click 'MANUALS' on the left menu.
Select 'discontinued products' under product category
scroll down the page and you will find the 87 service manual.
The manual contains the schematics.
Check the protection diodes and the 1k resistor.( page 5-14)
