[Test-Equipment] Landmark Instruments ?

Back when I actually did something rather than point, I
found that the HP and later Tektronix spectrum analyzers
were really a significant improvement over nothing and the
Polarad stuff. The HP 8510 was such a powerful tool that I
imagine everyone had it doing something even HP hadn't
thought about (I made one in to an 3d imaging radar). The
very high end frequency synthesizers capable of microsecond
frequency switching and holding phase were also achievements
that allowed a lot of data to be taken that could never be
taken before. The FFT and family allowed not only MP3 but a
raft of innovative measurements like nearfield antenna
patterns and most all things in video/audio digital stuff
and even cameras.
